2025 Romaniacs confirmed not in Hard Enduro World Championship

Red Bull Romaniacs, along with Red Bull Erzbergrodeo, confirm they will not be part of the 2025 FIM Hard Enduro World Championship.

As the Romaniacs organisers rightly point out, the FIM’s announcement that the Hard Enduro World Championship has a new promoter and would go ahead in 2025 with a new calendar caused unanswered questions in the enduro community. Not least because the provisional calendar included the Romaniacs event, albeit with an “in negotiation” caveat.

The Romaniacs organisers, along with the Erzbergrodeo, had previously announced they were going it alone with their self-proclaimed “Extreme World Championship”, so to find Romaniacs on the schedule for 2025 was a surprise.

However, the event director Martin Freinademetz, and Erzbergrodeo’s boss Karl Katoch, have both issued a joint statement restating their intentions to go it alone and stand independently of the FIM series, if not from each other.

The statement in full:

“Neither Red Bull Romaniacs nor Red Bull Erzbergrodeo will be part of the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship calendar in 2025. Rather, both events will stick to their decision to award their own world championship titles for their racing events. As already announced, the Extreme Enduro Rallye World Champion will be crowned at the Red Bull Romaniacs 2025, while the winner of the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo will be awarded the title of Extreme Enduro World Champion.”

The organizers of the two Extreme Enduro lighthouse events describe the motives for this decision as follows: “In order to participate in an international race series with our events, we would still like to have more information than the new promoter can provide in such a short period of time. Unfortunately, there are currently too many unanswered questions and too few agreements at the moment. In our opinion, a world championship should primarily serve the sustainable development of our sport. This also includes concepts that support and secure the implementation of the individual racing competitions and access to the sport for all Extreme Enduro athletes.” Say Freinademetz and Katoch.

“We will continue to follow the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship with interest and wish the new promoters and all race organizers all the best for the 2025 season. We welcome every effort to provide access to the sport of Extreme Enduro for future generations of ambitious offroad motorcycle athletes. Both the Red Bull Romaniacs and the Red Bull Erzbergodeo have been passionate about developing the sport for several decades. The awarding of the World Champion titles at our events is intended to serve the further growth of the Extreme Enduro sport and the recognition of the athletes.” Martin Freinademetz and Karl Katoch conclude their joint statement.
