Africa Eco Race updates non-competitive Raid classes for 2027

Africa Eco Race introduces two distinct Raid categories for 2027, offering riders a clearer choice between guided adventure and near race-level immersion alongside main event participation.

The Africa Eco Race organisers have announced a revised Raid format for 2027, splitting the category designed for non-competitive participation in this epic race across the original route so the Dakar in North, West Africa, into two options designed to better suit different rider levels and expectations.

First introduced 15 years ago, the Raid class has allowed competitors to experience rally raid without the pressure of timing or classification. For 2027, that concept is expanded with two clearly defined formats: Raid Travel and Raid Evolution.

Take note: the organisers say they will limit the new classes to 20 bike (also 20 cars FYI).

Two ways to ride the Africa Eco Race

Raid Travel is aimed at riders looking for a guided rally experience. The format focuses on discovery and enjoyment, with structured support from experienced professionals and no pressure from navigation or race demands.

This is an entry point into rally raid, combining long-distance adventure with a controlled and supported environment.

Raid Evolution moves much closer to the full race experience. Riders follow the same structure as competitors, including briefings, navigation, start times and stage riding.

There is no official timing or classification, with progress instead validated through waypoints. Entry is subject to approval by the organisation and requires a minimum level of experience.

Riders in the Evolution category can switch to the Travel format if needed during the event.
