AORC 2020 reduced to four rounds – KTM & Husqvarna teams withdraw

The Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) has cancelled rounds seven and eight of the 2020 Championship forcing KTM and Husqvarna race teams to call time on the remainder of the season.

Australian Motorcycling is being forced to play out its own “Yeah, Nah” routine with the 2020 AORC calendar. Largely due to the recent Coronavirus spike in Victoria and NSW, plus subsequent lockdown restrictions and border controls, AORC say it has made the difficult decision to cancel the two rounds in previously scheduled for September.

As it stands and with just two rounds completed in February and March before the lockdown, just two rounds remain:

• Round 9-10: Wynyard, Tasmania 18 October 17-18
• Round 11-12, Venue TBC November 14–15

On the back of this decision, the KTM and Husqvarna enduro teams have also said “Nah” and withdrawn from the remainder of the season.

“With daily changes related to travel restrictions, whether or not racing can resume in 2020 is beyond all of our control, with the only certainty being COVID-19 does not abide by any schedule,” states Brad Hagi, Managing Director of the KTM Group Australia and New Zealand.

“This decision has not been made lightly and we would like to thank our outstanding riders, mechanics and dedicated sponsors for their support during these challenging times and look forward to what 2021 and beyond can offer.”

The KTM Group in Australia say they will “refocus” for the remainder of the year on the dealer network and riders through “state-based activities” and look forward to wiping the slate clean for the 2021 racing season. Amen to that.
