Breaking: Italian Enduro Championship round one cancelled due to Coronavirus

Suspension of all sports in Italy due to the outbreak of Coronavirus means Italian Enduro Championship round one due this weekend is cancelled. 

The 2020 Italian Enduro Championship due to begin this weekend, March 1 in Passirano has been cancelled due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus in the country. 

With news breaking around the globe of Coronavirus outbreaks, lockdowns had already been announced in Italy which resulted in the major sporting events being cancelled over last weekend including major football matches in Serie A league.

That has now extended to all sporting activities and that includes the national enduro championship. The series attracts most the major teams and players in the Enduro World Championship and round one was set to be the proving ground for this GP season ahead. 

Here’s the statement from Italian Enduro promoters in full:

Upon indication of the Government, the Minister for Youth Policies and Sports Vincenzo Spadafora asked CONI to invite the National Sports Federation, the Associated Disciplines and the Sports Promotion Bodies, to suspend all sports activities, including therefore motorcycling ones, in program in the Regions of Emilia Romagna - Friuli Venezia Giulia - Lombardy - Piedmont - Veneto for the containment and management of the epidemiological emergency from Coronavirus.

These measures therefore also include the motorcycle world for the need to prevent risks and better protect the health of all those who, in various capacities, participate in events and competitions.

These provisions, as per ordinances of the Regions concerned, are valid until Sunday 1 March p.v., without prejudice to any further communications in this regard.

As regards the Italian Enduro Championship, we therefore inform you that the 1st round of the Absolutes of Italy-IMF Cup / Italian Cup scheduled for March 1 in Passirano (BS) will not be played.
