Cross Mission Shikokuberg – POV onboard at Japan’s Erzberg

Onboard action from “Shikokuberg”, Japan’s answer to the mighty Iron Giant quarry in Austria held at Niihama, Shikoku, which saw over 300 riders battle with rocks, hills and each other…

Former Erzbergrodeo participant Ren Ishidoya is the person behind Shikokberg, Japan’s “real hard enduro” which runs a race format in line with Austrian event but with no qualifying prologue. Over 300 riders aimed at 10 checkpoints on the condensed four kilometre track (space is more of an issue here than in the Eisenerz quarry!) which had altitude changes of 250 metres.

The track was tough for the largely amateur level riders but around 600 spectators were on hand to help riders conquer the Japanese Iron Giant.

Taisuke Mizukami, who has also raced at Erzberg, took the overall win ahead of second-placed Kosuke Mori who is a Roof of Africa Gold class finisher. Third place went to Kazuto Yano who ran a helmet cam…
