EnduroGP Portugal 1: Day 1 – Results, video, rundown

On terrain already familiar to most of the EnduroGP paddock, the first full day of enduro got underway in Fafe under blue skies and with dusty tests. With three tests, Extreme, Enduro and Cross, all very different from one another, round four of the World Championship is one of those that really puts the riders’ skills to the test.
Showing once again why he carries the golden plate on his bike, Josep Garcia went all-in from the start, determined to defend the first position he earned yesterday in the Super Test. The KTM rider led from start to finish, managing his advantage after setting the fastest time in four of the first five tests to take victory in EnduroGP and E1.
Second overall went to Zach Pichon, who also returned to the top step of the podium in the E2 category. The TM rider was especially strong on the final lap, where he set the fastest time in every test, but his attack came too late.
Andrea Verona will not be happy with third overall and second in E2. The Italian started slowly, as we have come to expect from him, but after managing to get himself back into the fight, he made a couple of mistakes in two tests that left him trying to recover lost time.

The E3 victory went to Theo Espinasse on his Fantic, proving once again that the French riders remain among the fastest on grassy and flat tests.
Rounding out the top five overall and the E3 podium was Hamish Macdonald, who again showed he is getting more comfortable every day on his Sherco 300 SEF and even managed to set the fastest time in one test.
In Junior, things returned to normal with Alberto Elgari setting the pace both overall and in J1, while the rest tried to chase down his TM. Second place went to Leo Joyon, with Thibaut Giraudon third and first in J2.
Pietro Scardina was flying today in Youth, setting a total time of 1h7m33.7s and pulling more than one minute clear of second-placed Valentin Mersin. Simone Cagnoni completed the podium.
In Women, things returned to normal after Canadian Shelby Turner stole the show yesterday in the Super Test. Rachel Gutish took control of the classification from the start to finish 36s ahead of Shelby and almost one minute ahead of her teammate, Rosie Rowett.
