First look: 2021 Suzuki RM-Z range

Suzuki announce RM-Z 250 and RM-Z 450 models with availability in dealers confirmed for January 2021 – Yellow is perhaps not the first colour of machinery you look for when you think of enduro, but the RM-Z range are always worth a look.

Yes, these are motocross bikes but converting either of them into a cross-country racer means just minor upgrades like handguards plus a skid plate and you’re set with a well-built machine running a quality suspension and engine combination.

What's new for 2021? Well, we were expecting them to be equipped with electric starters but sadly, this is not the case. In fact, there are no major changes for 2021 besides revised graphics.

But it’s not all doom and gloom. Heavily revised for 2018, the RM-Z 450 was brought bang up to date and delivered sharp aesthetics, improved brakes, the latest Showa suspension, ergonomics and improved power plant.

The following year saw the RM-Z 250 receive the same upgrades, except the smaller machines come fitted with Kayaba suspension. What we have here for 2021 is most definitely a case of, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.

Continuing with the same, reliable platform isn’t always a bad thing though, and the bikes are very easy on the eye. And the wallet, for that matter, too.
