First look: All-new Pro Taper SMX 04 and MXT 04 Off-Road Tyres

ProTaper announce all-new SMX 04 and MXT 04 tyres for off-road and motocross markets.

Maybe it’s a sign of age or more likely a sign of the times but to learn ProTaper, the motorcycle handlebars and controls specialists, are making tyres (or tires if you prefer) was a bit of a surprise.

Expanding their product lineup with its first-ever motorcycle tyres, Pro Taper say the SMX 04 and MXT 04 models bring their performance and durability standards to both the motocross and off-road markets.

“For years, we've been dedicated to providing riders with high-performance products that enhance their experience on the track and the trail,” said Paul O'Brien, Brand Manager at ProTaper. “With the SMX 04 and MXT 04 tires, we’re bringing that same commitment to quality and innovation to tires, ensuring riders have the traction, control, and durability they need to push their limits.”

Two models for MX and off-road/enduro/trail

The ProTaper range is two-fold with the SMX 04 standing as a dedicated motocross tyre. Engineered for soft-to-intermediate terrain they say, it boasts “exceptional grip, precise slide control, and effective square edge bump absorption, ensuring a confident and controlled ride.” 

The SMX 04 features polygon blocks which they say aids straight-line traction and “dual stair side lugs” for lean angle stability.

The ProTaper MXT 04 meanwhile promises to be a more versatile tyre with “all-around performance and exceptional ruggedness.” Ideal for off-road racing and recreational riding, Pro Taper say, the MXT 04 suits intermediate to hard terrain. 

Molded blocks are asymmetrically arranged, to boost stability during hard braking and acceleration plus a claimed unique knob and groove tread design also boasts “exceptional braking and stability across various intermediate terrains.”
