First look: AXP Racing skid plates for 2026 KTM 690 and Husqvarna 701

AXP Racing adds a new full-coverage HDPE skid plate to its range for 2026 KTM 690 and Husqvarna 701 models, aimed at riders using these big singles properly off-road.

The KTM 690 and Husqvarna 701 are popular do-it-all machines, but anyone who rides them in rocky or technical terrain knows how exposed the underside can be. AXP Racing’s latest skid plate, which fits the new frame design of the 2026 models, is designed as a full-coverage solution, protecting more than just the sump for riders who regularly point these bikes at tougher trails.

Full coverage protection

AXP’s new design focuses on the key impact zones underneath the bike. It extends to cover the engine cases, clutch and ignition covers, water pump, rear suspension linkage and master cylinder. The idea is simple: protect the expensive parts most likely to meet rocks, ledges or trail debris.

Construction

Like other AXP products, this skid plate is made from thick HDPE plastic rather than aluminium. The material is well proven in off-road use and is chosen for its balance of strength, flexibility and low weight. AXP also points to reduced vibration and noise compared to alloy guards, plus the ability to slide over obstacles rather than snag and in our testing and use of these on our test bikes we can back that up.

Fitment

Installation uses a simple three-bolt system, making fitting and removal straightforward for routine maintenance. All components are included in the kit.
