First look: WP Braking Systems for Motorcycles

Austrian manufacturer and suspension specialist announces all-new WP Braking Systems bringing in-house designed, developed and manufactured “high-performance braking” range for motorcycles from KTM base in Austria.

There are various signs that the world of KTM as we know it (Bajaj Mobility as the financial world knows it now), is sprouting green shoots. The bicycles are gone from the company, production is running and KTM Racing continues to grab headlines unabated across different bike sports with success already in 2026 at the Dakar, Eli Tomac going two from two in Supercross, and Billy Bolt unstoppable in SuperEnduro on the white bike.

One sizeable part of the Mattighofen-based manufacturer is the WP brand, famously suspension specialists of course which has given birth to a new components baby.

WP Braking Systems is an in-house developed, designed, engineered, and produced green shoot and quite a departure for a company wanting to re-ignite itself. Looking at it purely from the point of view of a customer buying parts for our bikes, we’re glad to see it is all in-house in Austria.

KTM 390 Duke, for now

Developed specifically as KTM OEM parts at this stage, the new WP Brakes will first debut on the 2026 KTM 390 Duke with new FCR4 calipers pictured. That means not yet on other models including Adventure of off-road and enduro range and it seems like the focus is on lower price-point models too.

Production is at a 6000 square metre plant in Mattighofen which aims to deliver 300,000 brake systems and 1.5 million hoses annually.

Focus on design, weight and heat management

WP has introduced a new lightweight four-piston front radial brake caliper, weighing a claimed 740g. The caliper uses a stiff, compact central bridge design and a narrower body so it can be used with spoked wheels. It features a die-cast aluminium body, hard-anodised aluminium pistons, EPDM seals and the choice of sintered or organic pads.

The system also includes braided brake hoses as standard, using PTFE lines rated up to 40 bar for improved brake feel, consistency and control. WP says drag has been reduced to improve efficiency, cut pad wear and help overall performance. The new braking range is aimed at delivering lighter weight, better cooling and reliable performance for both road and race use.

WP Suspension operates alongside KTM, Husqvarna, and GASGAS under the same Bajaj Mobility AG (formerly Pierer Mobility Group, formerly KTM Industries AG) parent company umbrella.
