Tested: ZRT ‘Frictionless’ Off-Road Throttle Tube

Enduro21 gives the ZRT (Zero Resistance Throttle) a full test and review in proper enduro conditions. From first impressions after fitting the ZRT tube to how good it felt in the woods and on some serious rocks (“I don't think I'll ever ride with a standard throttle tube again”  – Jordan Scott).

ZRT or Zero Resistance Throttle is a frictionless throttle tube you fit to your existing throttle housing and cables. The frictionless system runs on two radial bearings at each end of the solid aluminium tube and they simply free-up the twist action of the throttle while giving you a very strong twist grip. The throttle end “cannot be damaged” ZRT say and with the ultra-smooth action their promise is “this throttle assembly will be smooth for the rest or your bikes life”.

From a rider’s point of view, as Jordan explains in the video, the frictionless design means less fatigue on your arm because there is less friction between throttle tube and handlebar.  The longer you ride the more that is meaningful.

ZRT tubes are available for a huge range of handlebar type, motorcycle manufacturer, age of bike (the oldest model application in their product range is a 1973 Honda!), and you have options for more or less aggressive cam. There are options for different bar-end also, with or without bolt-on handguards with additional accessories if you’re using wrap-around guards.

ZRT boasts its toughness in race conditions across different off-road disciplines and Enduro21’s testing of the tube is ongoing in all different conditions. Jordan’s video above shows some of the terrain he rides on with his Husqvarna TE300i. Hopefully you can tell from his bar-end and grips he’s not a stranger to dropping the bike and giving the build quality a tough time. We’ve also got one fitted to an older Yamaha YZ250.
