Video highlights: Tough 100 Extreme Enduro

Video highlights from “Britain’s toughest extreme enduro” the Tough 100 which brought typical Welsh Enduro conditions and a mighty hill climb for the brave.

Riders at the 2020 Tough 100 Extreme Enduro, an off-spring of the infamous Tough One, had to battle with the elements around the impressive course in Mid-Wales. Gethin Humphreys took an early lead and well over an hour to complete his first two laps on the 11-mile course but disaster struck on lap three when Humphreys' shock bolt sheered and needed a lengthy pitstop for repairs.

Lee Sampson took over the lead when, near the two-hour mark, the course director opened up the “MICHELIN MOUNTAIN” hill climb – a massive hill that saved riders a huge three-mile chunk of the unforgiving and strength zapping course if they could make it…

Sampson was first man there and sailed his KTM 300 to the top, staying feet up and blasting with aggression to the top. Humphreys followed with his fixed Husky but could not quite match Sampson to the top and was helped by his brother, Owain halfway up to reach the top.

Other riders tried but only eight riders made the hill top during the event and a lot of them had to do a zig-zag pattern and some serious skills to make it up.

Sampson finished an eventual nine minutes up on the committed Humphreys with Harry Houghton putting in some fantastic laps after a bad first lap to secure third place.

Lee Meredith was top Clubman with a stunning seven-lap gold medal finish from James Francis in second spot (James also did seven but was out of time) and Scott Harris in third place on six laps.

John Shirt was the top Vets rider also managing a gold award with seven laps completed. Andy Edwards and Tim Forman followed Shirt home on six laps for silver awards.

Evergreen Gary McCoy took the over 50’s win also with a gold medal and two laps clear of the next best Dave Knaggs who in fact is over-60! Martin Wells was third on four laps.
