Weston Beach Race podium for Billy Bolt – O40 win for David Knight on a Ducati

Todd Kellett takes a record seventh victory at the infamous Weston Beach Race ahead of Billy Bolt and Dan Thornhill – veteran David Knight fifth and best over-40 on a Ducati Desmo 450.

Storm Amy’s bad weather forced organisers to squeeze all races into one day, with the main solo race cut to 90 minutes – half the usual duration.

Sand racing specialist and world champion Todd Kellett made Weston-Super-Mare beach his own once again with a record seventh victory. Kellett clocked 10 laps almost to the second in 1:30 on the Drag’On Yamaha YZ450F.

Just 1 minute 36 behind came Hard Enduro and SuperEnduro world champ Billy Bolt. With little time on the sand or his 450 Husqvarna, Bolt arrived at the British seaside in the middle of a punishing Hard Enduro World Championship schedule – fresh from victory at Hixpania two weeks ago and heading straight to Turkey for Sea to Sky.

Switching from his 300 two-stroke extreme bike to brutal beach racing on the big 450 isn’t new for Bill – he famously sealed his 2018 WESS world title at Red Bull Knockout in the Netherlands and has had strong Weston results before. But second place, just over a minute adrift of the world’s best sand racer, deserves serious credit.

David and the Desmo

Motocross boys Dan Thornhill and Shane Carless rounded out the top four, before another familiar name appeared in fifth: David Knight. Like Bolt, the former multi-time enduro world champion is no stranger to Weston but arrived this year after working up to the wire to get his Ducati Desmo 450 race-ready. Fifth overall and top over-40 finisher was the result for Knighter.
